3. HOW ARE LANDSCAPE STUDIED IN OTHER COUNTRIES?
In many countries, comprehensive landscape assessments often form part of the land use planning process. These countries usually prepare maps and inventories of their landscape to:
establish the baseline conditions of the existing landscape resource, as a benchmark against which future changes can be assessed;
identify specific landscape features and establish a systematic classification system of landscape resources; and
measure and evaluate the quality and condition of landscape features and their sensitivity to change.
